Coup d'État in Gabon: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

A coup d'État is underway in Gabon. That's Bad, of course. But France had nothing to say during the coup d'État that lasted 55 years, perpetrated by the Bongo family: the Father, Omar, from 1967 to 2009, then the Son, Ali, from 2009 to 2023. Obviously that was the Good one. "France condemns the military coup that is underway in Gabon"! That's ... Ugly. Benyounes Saidi

BRICS, the new road and rising voice

The BRICS meeting was successful with the adoption of two important decisions. Responding to various expectations, 6 countries - Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, UAE and Argentina - were accepted to be part of the group. With this expansion the BRICS group will represent the first world group in terms of wealth, population and potential, with 37% of the world Gross Domestic Product and 46% of the world population, exceeding the share of the G7 (32% of the GDP and 10% of the world's population). Africa will be present with three members and three countries will represent the Arab world. Witnessing the dynamics of BRICS, other countries - more than 40 in total - expressed their will to join the group. As we see, the countries that are looking for an alternative to the relations imposed on them by the West are joining the BRICS group. In addition, the rules of the New Development Bank, created by the BRICS, have been better designed to provide real assistance to developing countri...

BRICS, the road to independence

BRICS leaders meet in South Africa to discuss issues that are at the heart of the concerns of many countries. In 2009 the representatives of 4 countries - Russia, China, Brazil, India - met to coordinate the actions of countries that wanted to free themselves from Western economic dominance. Since then, this group - expanded to include South Africa - has grown in importance and confidence. This is how this group represents in 2023, 40% of the world population and  close to 32% of the world production, exceeding that of the G7, the group of the 7 richest Western countries, and this trend is continuing.  One of the strengths of this group lies in the fact that there is no ideological orientation: each member of the group is completely free in its internal organization, without foreign interference. Currently they want to give a New Development Bank means to provide a real aid to the countries that need it, particularly in Africa, without dictating to these countries a specific p...

Africa on (rapid) move

9 months after the "coup" of May 2021 in Mali, the new leaders drive French troops out of their country. 5 months after the September 2022 "coup" in Burkina Faso, the new leaders put an end to the presence of French troops in the country. In August 2023 a "coup d'État" intervened in Niger. The only interesting question is when will the new rulers drive the French troops out of their country. It should also be remembered that France still has, in addition to troops in Niger, military bases in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon and Djibouti. France and the United States are working to bring back the "elected" president... to maintain foreign troops in Niger and exploit it's uranium. Finally, a linguistic remark: if the "coups" put an end to the immoral and anachronistic presence of foreign troops in Africa, I think it would be logical and appropriate to replace the term "coup d'État" by ... "coup d'éclat...
